Comfortable and rustic best describes our Chugach Mountain camp. Accessed by jet boat, it is located on the Tonsina River a few miles upstream from Tonsina Lake. The closest town is Valdez, approximately thirty air miles to the south. Canvas wall tents on wood floors with wood stove heat are used for all of our needs. Separate tents are set up for cooking, sleeping, and even a tent for a wilderness hot shower. There are all of the comforts of home without any of the hassles. You will enjoy delicious hearty Alaskan meals while in base camp, and freeze dried backpacking meals with other goodies on the hiking and backpacking trips. In addition to the awesome mountain scenery you will enjoy seeing a large variety of wildlife that inhabit the area. The large animals include moose, Dall sheep, mountain goat, grizzly bears, and black bears. There is also a long list of small animals, waterfowl, and birds that include beaver, otter, bald eagles, trumpeter swans, and others too numerous to list.
