Daily
commercial flights are available from Anchorage to
Valdez. We will meet you in Valdez and start your
journey to our camp.
A seventy-five
mile drive up the Richardson Highway is the first
leg of the trip. The highway follows much of the
original Valdez Trail from the gold rush days. We
go through Keystone Canyon where you will see some
beautiful waterfalls, and up through Thompson Pass.
In addition to the mountain scenery of the pass, a
stop at Worthington Glacier makes this drive one of
the best in Alaska.
The second leg of
the trip is approximately thirty miles up the
Tonsina River in our jet boats. The first few
minutes of this river trip is on some exciting
Class II water. Closer to the lake the river
flattens out, and it is not uncommon to see moose,
bears, and a variety of waterfowl along this part
of the river. After going the seven miles across
the lake, there is a short portage where we change
boats, and we are just a few minutes from camp. On
this trip we are headed up a glacial valley, so the
scenery always changes. You and your cameras will
be busy.
If you choose to
fly to Valdez we will meet you there. If you are
driving to Valdez we can either meet you there or
meet you where we access the river on the
Richardson Highway.
